“VINCI Airports hereby confirms its international ambitions and becomes one of the world’s top five operators in the field of airport management.” Nicolas Notebaert, Chairman of VINCI Airports On 10 November 2015, the consortium composed of VINCI Airports and ORIX, a leading Japanese integrated financial services group, was named by the New Kansai International Airport Company (NKIAC) as the preferred bidder for the 44-year concession contract for the Kansai and Osaka international airports. The two partners are currently setting up a concession company in preparation for signing a concession contract with NKIAC by the end of 2015. VINCI Airports and ORIX will each have a 40% stake in this company, with the remaining 20% held by a number of companies in the Kansai region. The concession company’s total financing plan amounts to 260 billion yen (about €1.94 billion), of which 80 billion yen (about €597 million) will be supplied by the shareholders. Opened in 1994, Kansai International Airport is located on an artificial island in Osaka Bay. Serving both as a domestic airport and an international hub, it handles 20 million passengers a year. Osaka International Airport, meanwhile, often known as Itami Airport, was brought into service in 1939. Handling 14.6 million passengers annually, it is the main domestic airport for the city of Osaka. Together, with their 34.6 million passengers, these two international airports form the second-busiest airport platform in Japan.
