Three airports equipped for green energy
25 May 2018 - Sustainability - Dominican Republic
LLa Isabela in Saint-Domingue, Puerto Plata and Barahona airports, operated by VINCI Airports (VINCI Concessions), have been equipped with photovoltaic panels that enable them to produce and consume fully carbon-free energy.
This initiative allows the three airports to cover the equivalent of 43%, 12% and 78%, respectively, of their energy needs. The three other airports in the Dominican Republic – Las Americas in Saint-Domingue and the two airports in the Samaná province – will also be fitted with solar panels before the end of 2018.
A total of nearly 6,500 tonnes of CO2 will be saved each year, which is equal to the carbon capture of 170,000 trees over 10 years.
