The Stampede Dam is gaining height
11 July 2018 - Projects update and handover - United States of America
Teams from RECo USA, an American subsidiary of Terre Armée (VINCI Construction), are continuing their task, in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountains (Northern California), of raising the Stampede Dam by 3.5m.
The aim is to optimise the safety and storage performance of this structure, built in 1970. In August 2017, work began on the construction of 10,000 sq. metres of back-to-back TerraPlus® facings, to limit outflows during major flood events and protect the towns and tourist destinations in the surrounding area.
The raised dam will increase the storage capacity of the reservoir to some 4 million cu. metres, at the same time serving as an access road.Financed by the Bureau of Reclamation’s national American dam safety programme, this project should be completed in October 2018.
