On the HS2 railway line project in the UK, Freyssinet (VINCI Construction) has ensured the success of a major new stage, between Coventry and Leamington Spa.

The railway track was temporarily closed for the installation of the HS2 Coventry Bridge, a massive structure weighing 5,600 t and 46 m in length. Thanks to Freyssinet’s Autoripage® (structure sliding) technique, the bridge was slid into position in just 5 h 30 min, thus minimising disruption. Completed 27 h ahead of schedule, the operation involved removing 113 m of track and 188 railway sleepers, and excavating 15,000 m3 of soil. After the slide, the area was backfilled in preparation for reopening the track to traffic. This new bridge will enable the HS2 high-speed line to pass beneath the existing railway line.
