Recovery of waste materials in Rouen

1 February 2015 - Projects update and handover - France

As part of a programme, which will be ongoing through until 2017, to improve access to the maritime port (Grand Port Maritime) in Rouen (Normandy), earthworks and dredging works (800,000 cu. metres of sediment) have begun on the Seine, downstream from Rouen, in the Hautot-sur-Seine swinging area. Once extracted, the materials are transported to the site of the CBN (Eurovia) quarry at Yville-sur-Seine where, after a preliminary acceptance phase, they are used to fill in the lake created by the quarrying operations. This recycling will ultimately lead to the re-creation of 17 hectares of the wet grassland that is typical of the flood plains of the Seine. This development is the subject of a thesis being written in partnership with the ECODIV Laboratory (University of Rouen).
