Protection works for the island of Aix

The Council of the Charente-Maritime department has entrusted the Terrassement Sud-Ouest office of VINCI Construction Terrassement (leader), in a joint venture with Laurière and Loca 64, with the installation of anti-flood protection measures on the island of Aix.

Within the framework of the Flood Prevention Action Programme, the project will improve the island’s level of flood protection by 20 cm compared with the level reached during storm Xynthia.

The works include building a wall (about 1 km long) and an earthen dyke, and reinforcing existing rip-rap. All equipment and materials are being brought in by boat.

The works started in November 2018 and will take two years to complete.
