18 November 2016 - Events - France

After three years of works, the Borne Romaine Tunnel, on the A8 motorway, was inaugurated on 17 November 2016 by Adolphe Colrat, prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes department and Pierre Coppey, chairman of VINCI Autoroutes, in the presence of many leading local figures, including Christian Estrosi, chairman of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and chairman of the Nice-Côte d’Azur metropolis.

Opened to traffic on 18 October, this new structure is now being used by motorists heading in the direction of Nice; the existing route, through a geologically unstable zone, will ultimately be closed. This 755 m-long tunnel’s location in a limestone massif will ensure the stability of its three lanes, all carrying traffic in the direction of Nice / Italy.

This project was implemented, on behalf of VINCI Autoroutes (Escota network), by a joint venture comprising, for the civil engineering, Campenon Bernard TP Côte d’Azur, leader, and GTM Sud (both VINCI Construction France subsidiaries), Soletanche Bachy France and Soletanche Bachy Tunnels (VINCI Construction) and Eurovia Méditerranée Nice, and by a joint venture notably comprising Mobility (VINCI Energies International & Systems) for the equipment and systems.
