Inaugurated a few days ago, the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge set a new world record for span length with 1,408-metre. It exceeds the world record previously held by the Russky Island Bridge in Vladivostok, Russia, which has a 1,104 metre central span and is also fitted with Freyssinet cables.

With a total length of 2,164 metres, the bridge located north of Istanbul (Turkey) is made of towers which are 322 metres high. Freyssinet (a Soletanche Freyssinet company and a VINCI Construction subsidiary) was responsible for studies, design, supply and installation of the record-setting structure's cables and dampers. It also handled the structure's prestressing and lifted the 17 central span segments. With its eight motorway lanes (four in each direction) and two railway tracks, the bridge will facilitate traffic between Europe and Asia.
