18 May 2015 - Events - France

Following its official inauguration, on 18 May 2015, in the presence of, notably, Alain Juppé, the city’s mayor, Thierry Braillard, French Secretary of State for Sport, and Xavier Huillard, Chairman & CEO of VINCI, the New Bordeaux Stadium (west of France) hosted its first match on 23 May in front of 40,275 spectators. Designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, this facility was built within a very short period (November 2012 – April 2015) to be ready to host the UEFA Euro 2016. Quite apart from this particularly tight deadline, the project stands out for its social dimension: the number of integration-through-employment hours worked largely exceeded the 63,000 hours written into the contract. Having headed the design, financing and construction of the stadium, the concession-holding Stade Bordeaux Atlantique consortium, a 50/50 venture formed by VINCI Concessions and Fayat, is now charged with the operation and maintenance of the structure for 30 years. The works were carried out by a consortium led by GTM Bâtiment Aquitaine. GTM Sud-Ouest TP GC, Sogea Sud-Ouest Hydraulique, Structures Geotechnics, Girebat (all VINCI Construction France subsidiaries), Menard, Soletanche Bachy Pieux (Soletanche Freyssinet/VINCI Construction) and Moter (Eurovia) also participated in the works. Upkeep, maintenance and replacements will be supplied by VINCI Facilities (VINCI Energies France).
