In the Land of Thuringia, the first section (3.3 km) of the A9 to be widened to 2x3 lanes was opened to traffic on 11 December 2013. This opening marked the completion of the first phase of the PPP secured by VINCI Concessions in 2011 (A-Modell programme), and an important stage for Eurovia, which carried out the works (29,000 cu. metres of concrete had been deployed and the company had also created three civil engineering structures and a manoeuvring area for winter maintenance vehicles).
Work is now proceeding on widening the A9 to 2x3 lanes between the Dittersdorf and Schleiz interchanges (19 km); begun in October 2011, it should be completed in late 2014.
