1 March 2017 - Projects update and handover - Algeria

In early February 2017, teams from Entrepose International Network (VINCI Construction) lifted into place the steel structure of the future building where cement will be pre-mixed at the planned Chlef cement works, 200 km to the south-west of Algiers.

Lifting this circular structure (diameter: 107 m; height: 27 m) required the deployment of nine cranes and a forklift truck.

The central roof ring, weighing 36 t, was lifted and then held in position by the central crane so that the peripheral roof sections (each weighing 18 t), assembled beforehand on the ground, could be installed and secured around it. Much preparation and risk analysis, including a 3D simulation, meant the teams could lift with great precision, ensuring the various elements of the structure were perfectly aligned.

The works are now continuing, with the insertion of spacers between the roof sections prior to the installation of the cladding.
