Drilling for the TAP in Greece

Within the framework of the TransAdriatic Pipeline project (TAP), between mid-November and mid-February 2018, HDI (Entrepose/VINCI Construction) set a world record by laying the longest stretch of pipeline ever created in one “go” by horizontal directional drilling.

In order to install this 1,820 m-long, 48-inch (1,219 mm) diameter pipe beneath the River Axios, HDI notably used ballasted boring tools – that it had itself developed and patented – which enable the profile of the bore to be preserved without deformation during large-diameter boring. Reminder: HDI is responsible for all the 13 river crossings to be created by horizontal directional drilling.
