1 April 2015 - New contracts - United Kingdom

The government of Wales, in the UK, has awarded a 50/50 joint venture formed by VINCI (via its Taylor Woodrow and VINCI Construction Grands Projets subsidiaries) and Costain the rst phase of an ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) contract in preparation for the creation of the M4 Corridor to the south of the city of Newport. This type of contract involves the company in charge of the project in the design & planning stage, after which the cost of the works to be carried out on a cost + fee basis is jointly agreed by the client and the company.

This 24 km-long new section of motorway includes a 2.5 km-long cable-stayed viaduct over the River Usk, 2 major interchanges and 36 engineering structures. This £750 million project will help deliver the government’s aim to improve infrastructure in Wales by making it more e«cient, safer and more sustainable. Development work will commence immediately; a local public inquiry should get under way about 18 months from now and construction, subject to approval by the authorities, could start in spring 2018.

VINCI has signicant expertise in complex roadworks. Examples are: the widening of the M1 junctions 25 to 28 carried out in the UK, the East End Crossing in Indiana (United States) currently under construction, and the new coastal highway project on Reunion Island, which is just starting. It also has substantial expertise in environmental planning and local stakeholder relations (M1 Widening and Bexhill Hastings Link Road in the UK, Tours-Bordeaux high speed rail line and A89 motorway in France).
