1 January 2014 - New contracts - Cameroon

On 14 November 2013, Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon, laid the foundation stone for the second bridge over the Wouri River in Douala, the country’s economic capital. Sogea-Satom (VINCI Construction), leader, in a consortium with Soletanche Bachy, a Soletanche Freyssinet subsidiary (VINCI Construction), is to build a double bridge that will relieve congestion on the existing bridge, improve traffic flow in Douala and facilitate rail transport in the region. The new bridge will accommodate five traffic lanes and two pavements as well as a railway line. Gently curving, it will be 760 m in length, with 135 m-long spans. The works, worth a total of €129m, will be completed within 36 months. This project will employ more than 500 Cameroonian workers, who will benefit from specifically-designed training courses; the majority of the supervisory staff will be African.
