VINCI named preferred bidder for the R1 expressway concession in Slovakia

The consortium consisting of VINCI Concessions, principal and the ABN Amro Highway private equity fund has been named preferred bidder by the Slovak Ministry of Transports, Posts and Telecommunications for a 30-year public-private partnership contract to build and maintain the R1 expressway. Located to the east of Bratislava, this new 2x2-lane infrastructure will link the towns of Nitra and Tekovské Nemce and will by-pass the town of Banska Bystrica in Slovakia.

The project, worth a total of more than €1 billion, comprises the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of a 52-km expressway consisting of four separate sections. The consortium will be remunerated by means of an annual royalty paid by the grantor.

Work will be executed by Stavby Silnic a Zeleznic (SSZ), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eurovia (part of the VINCI Group).

The infrastructure will by operated by VINCI Concessions.VINCI Concessions has also been prequalified and has submitted bids for two other PPP projects in Slovakia for the Slovak Ministry of Transports, Posts and Telecommunications, namely the D1 motorway (74 km between Bratislava and Kosice) and the D1_3 Motorway (29 km between Hricovské Podhradie and Dubna Skala).

This initial success will consolidated VINCI’s presence in Central and Eastern Europe, where its revenue totalled €2.3 billion in 2007.
