VINCI wins a tunnel construction contract in the United States
VINCI Construction Grands Projets, leader (65 %) of a joint-venturewith the American contractor Frontier-Kemper Constructors Inc. (35 %),recently signed a contract with the City of Detroit (Detroit Water andSewerage Department) to build a tunnel for carrying treated wastewaterfrom the city for discharge into the Detroit river.
This contract, worth US$299 million (around €230 million),involves digging a 1.9km tunnel with an interior diameter of 6.5m usinga pressurized-mud tunnel boring machine. This technique, as yet littleused in the USA, is one of VINCI Construction Grands Projets'particular areas of expertise.
Work will start in mid-November 2008 and should be completed byDecember 2012.
