Supporting the development of nuclear energy worldwide
Nuclear energy has a key role to play in addressing climate emergency and energy sovereignty issues. With an extensive legacy in building France's nuclear power plants, VINCI is involved in many active power plants on a daily basis and throughout the industry's value chain, both in France and abroad. Its specialist expertise, combined with its skills in managing major projects, has forged its reputation as a leading force in the ongoing revival of the nuclear energy sector.

Longstanding builder of nuclear power plants
Between the 1970s and the turn of the 2000s, France built 58 nuclear reactors across 19 production sites, 80% of which were constructed by VINCI Group companies. VINCI also played a part in developing nuclear power plants around the world by building China's first plant in Daya Bay in the 1980s and 1990s. Freyssinet (VINCI Construction), an expert in prestressed concrete, has been involved in building the containment systems for 150 reactors worldwide. VINCI Energies, which has a dedicated nuclear power division, is currently working on the construction of two EPR reactors at the Hinkley Point site in the United Kingdom.
Working every day at the heart of nuclear facilities
VINCI is also present at many active power plants and throughout the industry’s value chain in France and abroad. At VINCI Construction, Nuvia is involved in operating and carrying out industrial maintenance on existing nuclear power plants and facilities, as well as dismantling plants, in a dozen European countries and also in North America and the Middle East.
Sixense, which specialises in engineering, diagnostics and modelling of civil works, is active at 10 of France’s 19 power plants.
VINCI Energies is involved in designing, building and maintaining existing power plants. With a wealth of expertise tailored to this sector and armed with the necessary authorisations, its teams work alongside EDF at all its nuclear power plants in France. They are also collaborating with other industry stakeholders, such as the work on the CEA's new research facilities at Cadarache (southern France).

Taking part in major international projects
In 2019, VINCI and Bouygues Travaux Publics, partners in the Novarka consortium, handed over the keys to the Chernobyl New Safe Confinement to the Ukrainian authorities. This outstanding and exceptional worksite lasted for 12 years and involved over 10,000 workers and 33 million working hours. The Chernobyl arch is the largest moveable land-based structure ever built. In France, VINCI Construction and VINCI Energies were involved for some 10 years in building the Tokamak Complex at the CEA site in southern France as part of the ITER international research programme, which aims to test and harness the energy of nuclear fusion.
