The Vasco de Gama Bridge, located to the north of Lisbon, in Portugal, is celebrating its 20th anniversary
Designed by VINCI and operated by VINCI Highways (VINCI Concessions), the Vasco-de-Gama bridge (12.3 km) that crosses the Tagus estuary in Lisbon, was built on the occasion of the 1998 World Exposition in order to relieve traffic pressure on the 25-April bridge
The iconic infrastructure, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, has carried an annual average of over 431 million vehicles, recording a growth in traffic of 5% in 2017. Lusoponte holds the concession for the two bridges, Vasco de Gama and 25-April, until 2030 and all potential future crossings over the Tagus.
