Successful completion of the testing phase at Chernobyl
The VINCI Construction Grands Projets teams responsible for the confinement of the sarcophagus at Chernobyl have just completed a crucial stage, the testing phase, entirely safely.
On 25 April, the eve of the 33rd anniversary of the explosion of the nuclear reactor, a simulation of the dismantling of a part of the reactor was carried out successfully.
The testing and implementation phase of this massive undertaking by the Novarka consortium, composed of VINCI Construction Grands Projets (leader) and Bouygues Travaux Publics, will have taken over a year.
The prototype arch will guarantee the safety of the accident site for a hundred years and make possible the dismantling of the old sarcophagus and the ruins of the reactor.
