An autonomous vehicle passes a toll barrier for the 1st time
On 12 July 2017, a PSA Group autonomous vehicle passed through the Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines toll plaza (VINCI Autoroutes network), the biggest in Europe, without any driver intervention, thanks to a specific communication established between the vehicle and the infrastructure.
This successful experiment in real traffic conditions represents an essential advance in the development of the autonomous vehicle towards Level 4 mind off – without driver supervision).
It marks the culmination of a development programme launched in 2016 that sealed the collaboration between VINCI Autoroutes and the PSA Group.
A first major milestone has thus been passed as regards establishing the connection between an autonomous vehicle and the new generations of infrastructure required for its development.
