VINCI Highways has expanded its network with 570 km of highways in Brazil, carried out major construction and renovation operations on infrastructure in Europe and Latin America, and strengthened its positions in the electronic toll collection market.
In May 2023, VINCI Highways finalised acquisition from the Patria fund of a 55% stake in Entrevias, which holds the concession for 570 km of toll highways crossing the state of São Paulo until 2047. The infrastructure connects São Paulo with the states of Minas Gerais to the north and Paraná to the south, covering Brazil’s main area of economic activity. The concession contract includes the widening – currently under way – of the infrastructure over a 210 km section. The number of toll transactions rose to 34.9 million in 2023, up 6% over the year.
VINCI Highways acquired an additional stake from its Colombian partner Constructora Conconcreto in Vía Sumapaz (formerly Vía 40 Express), which holds the concession for the Bogotá–Girardot highway, the busiest in the country. It now holds 75% of the concession company’s capital. At the same time, it finalised long-term financing for Vía Sumapaz in a total amount of 2,675 billion Colombian pesos, i.e. €535 million.
2023 was a year of brisk activity in programme management, with several major projects associated with recently won concessions. In Germany, VINCI Highways continued construction of the B247, the first road built under a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme with the federal state. This 22 km road will link the cities of Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza in the northern part of Thuringia. By the end of the year, the works, carried out by VINCI Construction, were 50% complete. VINCI Highways also finalised widening to a three-lane dual carriageway of a 30 km section of the A7-2, which links Bavaria to the port of Hamburg. With five PPPs covering 234 km in Germany, VINCI Highways is the leading private motorway concession operator in the country.
In the Czech Republic, under the first motorway PPP awarded in the country, VINCI Highways continued with work on the D4 between the cities of Příbram (Central Bohemia) and Písek (South Bohemia). In full BIM (Building Information Modelling) implementation by VINCI Construction, the works entail building a new 32 km section and upgrading 17 km of existing road. The project was 80% completed by the end of 2023. In Greece, as part of the extension of the Athens–Patras motorway concession, VINCI Highways is building a new 75 km section to the city of Pyrgos in the west of the Peloponnese peninsula. Launched in 2022, the works are scheduled for completion in 2025. In Colombia, where VINCI Highways is working with VINCI Construction on a major renovation programme on the Bogotá–Girardot highway (141 km), construction of a third lane over 65 km was virtually completed by the end of the year, while progress on upgrades to the other sections had reached the 50% completion mark. In Brazil, Entrevias opened two new widened sections – a total of 64 km – on the SP-333 highway. The concession contract provides for an investment of 3.9 billion reais (€71 million) to renovate the infrastructure, build connections with existing road networks and implement technologies to improve user services.
