The Carbon Disclosure Project has presented VINCI with the award for the most transparent company in France in recognition of the actions implemented by the Group to reduce its carbon emissions and lessen the impact of its business on climate change. The Group scored 100 A-, well ahead of the average of 81 B for French companies. VINCI leads the pack in the industrial sector.

The Carbon Disclosure Project, an initiative created in 2003 and involving over 700 institutional investors, invites global listed companies to use its questionnaire to publish their CO2 emission figures each year. In 2014, 98 of the 250 largest French companies, including all those that make up the Paris Bourse’s CAC 40 index, filled in the international non-profit organisation’s questionnaire.

VINCI is already included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) and is now aiming for the Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) that is open to those companies that have achieved an A score.

Sharp improvement for VINCI since 2011

VINCI is the leader in the industrial sector. The measures that enabled VINCI to stand out in 2014 were:
- its commitment to green growth, included in section 3 of the VINCI Manifesto, which states, “We commit to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 30% between now and 2020”
- the reliability of its results (methods used to quantify and track energy consumption and CO2 emissions)
- its work on eco-design, particularly through the VINCI ParisTech Chair in Eco-design of Building Complexes and Infrastructure.
VINCI has made significant progress since 2011, increasing both its scores for transparency, through provision of information, and for performance, through implementing the measures decided.

VINCI striving to improve the carbon performance of its business activities

VINCI is rising to the climate change challenge through its eco-design approach based on the life cycle analysis of its structures, which ensures their environmental performance is improved in the design and construction phases, and above all during their use over long periods of up to a century (the phase with the highest CO2 emissions). This eco-design approach also enables VINCI to involve and unite all its stakeholders – clients, suppliers, and architect and engineering firms – under a shared strategic vision.

VINCI has also adopted a clear cooperative innovation policy reflected in its support for the relevant sciences by creating a “Chair in Eco-design of Building Complexes and Infrastructure” with ParisTech in 2008. The openness of its ecosystem allows VINCI to drive its eco-design approach forward, support scientific research and share the results with the sector as a whole.

For its Contracting business, VINCI companies have solid expertise in low-carbon solutions. In 2013, they delivered over 400 certified projects of which 49 were certified BREEAM® and 40 LEED®. These new-build and renovation projects totalled revenue of €3 billion.

In France, 55 Oxygen projects with guaranteed energy performance have been completed or are under construction.

For its Concessions business, the emphasis is on users, and so Scope 3 emissions. VINCI Autoroutes has installed 225 lanes for 30 km/h non-stop electronic toll collection, which has reduced motorway customer emissions by 45,000 tonnes.
