Seismic protection for the new teaching hospital in Pointe-à-Pitre
3 March 2020 - Projects update and handover - France
Following the destruction of part of the teaching hospital in Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe) by a fire, new buildings meeting international seismic protection standards are currently being erected.
Given the hospital’s location in a Level 5 seismic zone (the highest level), the Freyssinet (Soletanche Freyssinet/ VINCI Construction) teams have designed a system which, in the event of a severe earthquake, will enable the buildings to withstand a displacement of 40 cm and continue functioning for more than 72 hours. They have supplied 212 ISOSISM PS (Pendulum System) isolators for this purpose, manufactured in Freyssinet’s FPC plant in Italy.
