Protecting biodiversity: 250 wildlife crossings along the VINCI Autoroutes network
9 August 2019 - Sustainability - France
As part of its environmental policy, VINCI Autoroutes has developed genuine in-house ecological engineering expertise for the motorway sector and works throughout the year with non-profit and scientific organisations to protect ordinary and extraordinary animal and plant species living near the motorway.
Specially trained teams, for instance, work on building crossings giving animals safe access to the other side of the motorway. These include overpasses for large and small animals, underpasses for small and medium-sized animals, and “chiropteroducts” to guide bats over the motorway.
