20 November 2019 - Projects update and handover - France

In order to better accommodate the Beluga XL at Saint-Nazaire – Montoir Airport (west of France), Aéroports du Grand- Ouest (VINCI Airports/VINCI Concessions) brought in Eurovia’s Nantes office to carry out infrastructure and lighting works on the runway and taxiways.

Leader of a joint venture also including Charier TP, Equo Vivo (VINCI Construction Terrassement) and DCP Airport, Eurovia supplied the earthworks and metalling works for the widening operations, the utility works (multitubular) for all the lighting and pavements, and 3D planing of the runway. A high modulus asphalt concrete was applied, as well as a surface course in aeronautical asphaltic concrete. As regards the parking area for the aircraft, Signature Grands Travaux (Eurovia) supplied the foundations, and widening works using studded concrete. The works, 90% of which were carried out at night, were subject to very tight time constraints – just five to six hours work each night so that the Beluga XL could land each morning.
Equo Vivo teams are currently restoring the damp areas of the site by way of ecological compensation, an operation marking the end of the works, scheduled for November 2019.
