31 May 2016 - Events - France

After almost three years of works, the Cité du Vin in Bordeaux (west of France) was inaugurated on 31 May in the presence, notably, of French President François Hollande, Alain Juppé, mayor of Bordeaux, and Hugues Fourmentraux, chairman of VINCI Construction France.

GTM Bâtiment Aquitaine and Arbonis, subsidiaries of VINCI Construction France, were responsible for the foundations / structural works / framework / envelope works package for the Cité du Vin, which aims to introduce to, and share with an international public the culture of wine-making and wine, and to contribute to protecting and passing on this universal intangible heritage.
Built to HEQ standards, the Cité du Vin consists of a 55 m-high tower – its upper reaches featuring a panoramic restaurant and a belvedere – with a torus (a rounded moulding) curling around its base, sheltering the route followed by visitors. The Cité du Vin opened to the public on 1 June.
Value of the works: €28.2m.
