End of the watertightness restoration work of the Emborrel bank on the Canal du Midi

Following the appearance of infiltration on the bank by the Emborrel lock in Avignonet-Lauragais (southwest France), Voies navigables de France (VNF) launched a call for possible solutions to these erosion problems.

Soletanche Bachy France (VINCI Construction) was thus selected by VNF and its project manager Egis to carry out preparatory investigative and utility network protection works, to create a sealing wall, and to restore the towpath, which is bordered by plane trees. In order to preserve the Canal du Midi landscape - a Unesco World Heritage site - the Trenchmix® process, particularly suited to the problems at the site, and producing limited quantities of waste materials, was used and a filtering barrier to prevent suspended particles from getting into the water was installed to preserve the quality of the water and the humid areas. Finally, the construction machinery used will be disinfected, in order to prevent the proliferation of canker stain, a disease affecting plane trees. The project has been successfully completed
