Emergency stop system for Mayotte’s airport
22 March 2018 - New contracts - France
The joint venture composed of SMTPC, Sogea Mayotte (VINCI Construction International Network subsidiaries) and Runway Safe has just signed a design-build contract, aimed at ensuring runway safety at Dzaoudzi-Pamandzi Airport, with airport operating company Société d’Exploitation de l’Aéroport de Mayotte.
This involves installing an emergency stop system for halting planes, in the form of a safety area at the end of the runway composed of recycled glass foam aggregate. In late 2017, this innovative system, required by the new European rules aimed at reducing the risk of runway excursions during take-off or landing, was installed by SBTPC (also a VINCI Construction International Network subsidiary) at Roland Garros Airport on Reunion Island. The works, to last 6 months, will start in June 2018.
