The Québec Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association’s prize for health and safety at work was awarded this year to Eurovia Québec (VINCI Construction), in recognition of its collaboration with the Biolift company on the design and development of an exoskeleton particularly adapted to jobs in construction.

It’s very straightforward: with the help of compressed air springs, the system stores the mechanical energy resulting when a person bends their back, and redistributes it when they straighten up again. The exoskeleton provides support, for example, when carrying worksite tools, and has been designed to withstand difficult environments (presence of excessive dust, rain, snow). The final version of the prototype will be ready in late 2022, and the plan is for it to be put on the market in 2023, initially mainly in Quebec and Canada.
