Agreement for a future bridge over the A709 by Montpellier

On 22 March 2019, Pierre Coppey, chairman of VINCI Autoroutes and Philippe Saurel, mayor of Montpellier (south of France) and chairman of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, signed an agreement to build a new multimodal bridge spanning the A709.

VINCI Autoroutes will act as the client of this project, financed by Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, the French government and the region. The bridge will make it possible to extend Line 1 of the tram network as part of the expansion southwards of the metropolis of Montpellier, and will be open to vehicles, ‘soft’ modes of transport and pedestrians.

The works, expected to employ about a hundred people, start in June 2019 and should be completed in summer 2022.
