A vertical TBM for Line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express
7 November 2018 - Projects update and handover - France
25 September saw the lifting into position of the VSM (Vertical Shaft Sinking Machine) being used during the works on section T3C of Line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express, which are being undertaken by VINCI Construction (VINCI Construction Grands Projets, leader, VINCI Construction France, Dodin Campenon Bernard and Botte Fondations) and Spie Batignolles.
Developed by Herrenknecht, this innovative method is being used here for the first time in France. It involves drilling the shaft vertically, at the same time installing the segments supporting the sides; with no workers deployed within the structure, the operation is entirely safe.
This vertical tunnelling method is suitable for restricted job sites in densely built-up urban areas and will be used for four of the section’s seven ancillary structures.
