Motorways - Improved traffic flows
In France, road traffic accounts for 93% of transport-related CO2 emissions. VINCI Autoroutes helps combat climate change by refurbishing motorway infrastructure, taking action to change motorway use and behaviour and creating a responsible roadway user and partner dynamic.
Automatic toll payment
The 30 km/h electronic toll collection system improves traffic flow, fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating the stop at the toll booth.
VINCI Autoroutes supports the sustainable mobility by taking action in a variety of fields. It has set aside 1,500 parking spaces for carpooling in 19 car parks located near interchanges and joined BlaBlaCar in offering Temps libre covoiturage, an electronic toll offer that encourages carpooling.
• 84% of the use of carpooling parking spaces is for job-related activities (VINCI Autoroutes 2015 survey).
• On average, 69 kg of CO2 equivalent is avoided daily per parking space used (based on an average roundtrip route).
• 8,016 tonnes of CO2 equivalent are avoided each year, based on a 66% car park fill rate (measured at the end of September 2015).
Airports - Low carbon airports
An international programme designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GES)
Launched in 2009 at the initiative of Airports Council International, Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) is the only independent, institutionally endorsed global standard for carbon management at airports.
VINCI Airports is the first international airport consortium to have committed 100% of its airports to this voluntary GHG emission reduction programme.
ANA (Airports of Portugal) facilities managed by VINCI Airports were the first to take part in this programme.

Oxygen®, VINCI Construction France’s eco-commitment
Designing and building or renovating an eco-efficient building is not enough. The behaviour of tenants is crucial to ensuring that the building used in a responsible and sustainable manner.
To ensure the energy performance of new or renovated buildings, from design to two years after handover, VINCI Construction France has introduced the OXYGEN® eco-commitment programme. The programme combines the eco-project (design), eco-production (works) and eco-utilisation phases. Its benefits include optimised environmental and energy performance, responsible construction, verified commitments and end user information and involvement.
Primméa, a home ownership offering
As a contribution to the general effort to create dwellings and promote home ownership, VINCI Construction France has designed the Primméa offer, which combines rapid construction, quality housing and affordable price.

Positive energy buildings
Turning limitations into opportunities: positive energy buildings
Within VINCI Energies, VINCI Facilities develops facility management solutions that optimise building management, boost energy efficiency and improve the working conditions of end users. Facility management also involves providing companies and public institutions with support and advice to help them manage their energy consumption.
Under a public-private partnership, VINCI Facilities manages the operation of the Realschule Poing School in Germany, for which it has designed and deployed high-efficiency energy solutions. Photovoltaic panels, wooden cladding, triple-glazed windows and dual flow ventilation have turned the school into a positive energy building. The facility now produces more renewable energy than it uses. The energy produced and not used by the building is then fed into the public grid, for use by the municipality.
The building’s annual heating energy needs are 14.44 kWh/m2, less than one third the required level set out in France’s 2012 thermal regulations.
Plants / Factories - Optimised industrial processes
Actemium, optimising energy consumption
Industrial processes account for 2/3 of the energy consumed by manufacturing plants. Actemium, the VINCI Energies brand dedicated to industrial processes, is involved in the design, construction and maintenance of production facilities across a wide variety of industrial sectors. Actemium supports the energy transition by helping customers improve their production processes and consume fewer natural resources.
Actemium’s expertise enables industrialists to optimise production and energy efficiency in their plants. Actemium’s services extend beyond regulatory energy audits to include research (e.g. PS2E, an energy transition research institute) and systemic inspections to identify energy losses at each process stage. This approach, coupled with the implementation of energy monitoring systems, is used to detect potential sources of energy savings.
Streamlining is now a real possibility, with equipment that consumes less energy such as the high efficiency IE3 motor, LED lighting, and unavoidable energy recovery solutions including heat loss recovery to generate electricity or district heating.
Biking - Sustainable mobility
VEGA©, a turnkey sustainable mobility solution
Businesses and local governments are increasingly keen to include sustainable solutions in their mobility programmes that are both ecological and practical.
Developed by Signature Group, a subsidiary of Eurovia, VEGA© is an electric bicycle mobility offering that includes related equipment and services. The system uses solar panels to achieve 100% autonomy, and the docking station provides energy for recharging bicycle batteries while they are parked and protected from the elements. VEGA© is a solution for companies and local governments seeking an innovative and progressive solution for their mobility programmes.
Railways - Environmental dialogue
South Europe Atlantic Tours-Bordeaux: exemplary environmental consensus.
In France, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy requires developers to apply the “Avoid-Reduce-Offset” sequence in order to conserve biodiversity.
VINCI subsidiary LISEA is the first private-sector company in France to be awarded a high-speed railway management contract, for the Tours-Bordeaux line. From the outset, the company went above and beyond regulatory requirements, working early on with biodiversity stakeholders including conservation groups, natural area conservancies, chambers of agriculture, regional centres for privately-owned forests and fishing federations to define priority areas, prepare environmental mitigation measures and identify sites close to the high-speed railway line to target.

Stadiums - Designed to last
Beacons of urban momentum, large new-generation stadiums are proving grounds for innovation, particularly in the field of sustainable development.
In Nice (southern France), the Allianz Riviera Stadium inaugurated in 2013 was built in a green worksite process that was environmentally friendly, specially adapted to the local district and designed to use an environmental management system complying with the ISO 14001 standard. Worksite waste management was optimised and pollution and resource consumption were reduced, as were noise, visual pollution and odour. Local residents were kept informed of progress throughout construction. The arena was desiged as an avant-garde eco stadium: its one of a kind latticework wood framing avoids the emission of 30,000 tonnes of CO2 compared to more traditional materials such as concrete. Equipped with a natural ventilation system, it derives its heating and cooling resources from the local Plaine du Var groundwater, which halves its energy consumption. The stadium also functions as a photovoltaic power plant, supplying the equivalent of 600 households per year with electricity.
Public lighting - Energy performance
Citeos (VINCI Energies), visible performance gains
Public lighting accounts for 41% of the electricity consumed by local governments (Source: ADEME). It is also a true source of savings.
As a partner of more than 3,000 municipalities, Citeos provides services ranging from maintenance to comprehensive management of city lighting and urban equipment. Citeos operates under public-private partnerships to help cities improve their energy performance. For example, in Cergy Pontoise near Paris, it has made a commitment to reduce energy consumption by 47% over 18 years, by renovating 80% of the existing lighting equipment and installing 7,000 LED lights, which consume less energy and are more flexible to use.

Warm mix asphalt protects the environment
With the pioneering process it introduced several years ago, Eurovia has become a leader in low-temperature asphalt production. By cutting production temperatures from 50 to 30°C, warm mix asphalts save energy and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Eurovia’s R&D teams have developed an additive, Asphamin, which reintroduces water during the asphalt compaction process while maintaining asphalt density. This innovation cuts the amount of energy used in asphalt placement by 20 to 40%.
PowerRoad®, the energy-producing roadway surfacing
PowerRoad® surfacing acts as a silent and invisible energy exchanger. In winter, thermal screens built into a roadway recover geothermal energy to melt snow, thus avoiding the massive use of salt, which impacts the environment, to ensure safe driving. In summer, the solar energy captured by the roadway allows heat to be supplied to infrastructure in the surrounding area.
Aggregate recycling and recovery with Granulat+
With Granulat+, Eurovia applies circular economy principles to conserve mineral resources by recovering 100% of aggregates removed during refurbishment work. The idea is to use fewer quarried materials by recycling inert worksite waste. Launched in the Mediterranean region, the approach has now been extended to the Greater Paris area and the Haute Normandie region.
In France, annual aggregate requirements amount to 560 million tonnes.
