More and more cities are using their rivers to reduce urban heat island effects, improve quality of life for their residents and preserve biodiversity. For example, a project is under way to redesign the embankments of the Rhine river in Bonn (Germany), where Eurovia (VINCI Construction) is transforming a 1.5 km segment from Moses-Hess-Ufer to Brassertufer. The works will increase the resilience of this public space to heat and drought, while also creating a promenade area covering about 20,000 sq. metres.
