VINCI will be presenting its innovations for transport and mobility at the 22nd Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress and Exhibition. The congress, which is the biggest international event dedicated to intelligent transport systems (ITS), will be held in Bordeaux from 5 to 9 October 2015.

As a global player in concessions and construction, VINCI’s role is to design, finance, build and manage tomorrow’s infrastructure and equipment.
Through VINCI Concessions, VINCI Autoroutes, VINCI Energies and Eurovia, the VINCI Group will exhibit several solutions for intelligent infrastructure management and connected services for customers.

Some of the key solutions being presented at the ITS World Congress

- Innovations for smart roads

Smartvia® Cryo: a connected system for managing road networks.
Smartvia® Cryo measures and transmits road temperatures on the surface and at depth. It was designed and developed by Signature Traffic Systems in partnership with Eurovia’s Research & Development Centre, which initiated the project. The wireless, energy-autonomous communicating system can be installed by simple coring on existing roads.

The Novatherm® demonstrator: energy-producing roadways.
Thermal screens built into a roadway recover geothermal energy to melt snow in winter. In summer, the solar energy captured by the roadway allows heat to be supplied to infrastructure in the surrounding area. The roadway thereby acts as a heat exchanger, with the added advantage of being silent and invisible. The innovation was developed by Eurovia.

- The added value of digital technology to help mobility

The connected motorway
VINCI Autoroutes is developing its digital services offer and making multiple initiatives that take advantage of interactivity and Internet communities.
The VINCI Autoroutes smartphone app offers its 500,000 users a wide range of innovative functions, including real-time traffic conditions and the possibility of saving favourite routes and signing up to receive personalised traffic alerts.
Radio VINCI Autoroutes (107.7), which broadcasts continuous information to drivers along the 4,386 km of the VINCI Autoroutes’ motorway network, has joined forces with Waze, a community-based traffic and navigation app. Thanks to the association, drivers receive and share real-time information on the portions of their journey outside of the VINCI Autoroutes network.

Optimise travellers time in transport
Integration of appropriate technology in infrastructure and interconnection between different transport modes play a major part in user mobility. VINCI Concessions is presenting its main reference in the field, the Rhônexpress. This recent tramway links Lyon Part-Dieu rail station to the city’s Saint Exupéry Airport, supplying passengers throughout the journey with real-time practical information, including flight and train times, and a free Wi-Fi connection.
To meet the passengers’ growing need for connectivity, the airports managed by VINCI Airports in France, Portugal and Cambodia offer free, unlimited Wi-Fi and additional services.

- Technology to optimise infrastructure operation

Traffic regulation and journey-time management
Monitoring and management of traffic flows are central to VINCI’s projects on its motorway networks in France and abroad. The SmarTIC solution developed by VINCI Energies in Prague, Czech Republic, is an example of a regulation system that enables centralised traffic management.

Real-time supervision
The central control room designed by VINCI Energies for the automatic metro in Lyon, France, manages the driverless trains and supervises installations in stations. The operating aid system is fully automated and manages all traffic on the line centrally and in total security.

During the congress, Radio VINCI Autoroutes will broadcast a daily special report and interview experts on the subject of intelligent transport.

- Imagining the city of the future with the Fabrique de la Cité

To provide input and impetus for conceptual work on urban innovation, VINCI set up a think tank, the Fabrique de la Cité – the City Factory – tasked with leveraging pioneering initiatives by catalysing discussion among the various stakeholders.
In an interdisciplinary, international approach, the people and institutions involved in urban development are brought together to conduct research projects and seminars. The work of the Fabrique de la Cité focuses on three main areas of interest: adapting existing cities, sustainable mobility and urban economics.
