France
Rennes ring road
The road known as the “barreau de Pont Lagot”, linking the Rennes bypasses and the Saint-Brieuc road, the RN 12, in Brittany, was opened to traffic on 6 December 2011. The completion of this project, implemented by Eurovia’s Rennes office, VINCI Construction Terrassement and its subsidiary TPR (VINCI Construction), will improve traffic conditions on the north-west sector of the Rennes ring road, and provide easier access to the Saint-Brieuc road. Worth a total of €10m, the works were completed in 18 months. They involved a million cubic metres of excavated material and required the deployment of 200,000 t of aggregate and 100,000 t of mix.
Warm mix for the A85
Between September and November 2011, in western France, teams from Eurovia Grands Travaux, on behalf of Cofiroute – Vivy Operations Centre (VINCI Autoroutes), renewed the pavement on both directions of 25 km of the A85 motorway junction – a total surface area of 550,000 sq. metres. They used 76,000 t of mix, half of it warm mix asphalt (Evotherm DAT5 from the Tempera product range). Applied at a temperature of 125°C (instead of the usual 165°C), this variety of mix notably enables greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced. Value of the works: €6.2m.
Earthquake-resistant construction for Fort-de-France CHU
In Martinique, the teaching hospital (CHU) in Fort-de- France has awarded the design-build contract for a new, 40,000 sq. metre hospital building to a consortium notably comprising Sogea Martinique and SIMP (VINCI Construction DOM-TOM subsidiaries), for the construction work, and Cegelec Espace & Défense (Cegelec GSS Division, Energy business line) for the electrical and climate control works packages. In order to ensure the hospital can continue functioning in the event of an earthquake, the structure of the building is built on 350 isolators that completely disconnect it from its foundations. The works, which will take 40 months, after an 8-month design and planning stage, began in December 2011. Total contract value: €109m.
Renovation works in La Défense
Following the clean-up and asbestos-removal operations undertaken by Arene and CMS (both VINCI Construction France subsidiaries), Bateg and GTM Bâtiment, also VINCI Construction France subsidiaries, are now proceeding with the redevelopment of the Eqho tower building (the former Descartes Building) on a general contracting basis. The new phase of works notably involves renovating the car park, the interior and the façade (with a triple-glazed, champagne-coloured glass cladding), the re-structuring of the base, which will merge into a vast forecourt, and the creation of a 12 m-high atrium. The 130 m-high tower, which is due to be handed over in 2013, will offer 80,000 sq. metres of office space on 40 storeys. Within the framework of this project, the consortium has entrusted the management of the major technical works packages to VINCI Energies IDF Tertiaire Contracting; Saga Tertiaire is responsible for the plumbing, Tunzini and Lefort Francheteau for climate control, ventilation and smoke extraction, Phibor and SDEL GPI for high-voltage work, SDEL Imtec for low-voltage work and TPI for the sprinkler system (all companies of the VINCI Energies France Division, Energy business line). Total value of the works: €250m.
Wastewater management for a nuclear plant
Cegelec Energy Cem (Cegelec GSS Division, Energy business line), as leader of a consortium, has been appointed by EDF CNPE to design and build four new wastewater treatment installations, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of water from the reactors’ cooling systems, at the Cattenom nuclear power plant, near Metz (east of France). Cegelec Energy Cem itself will be responsible for the system engineering, and coordinating the project. Total contract value: €25m, of which half for Cegelec Energy Cem.
Care home in Essonne
In the Paris region, the foundation stone for the Essonne department’s “Ehpad” (residential facility for elderly and infirm people) in Morangis was laid on 25 November 2011. Developed by Immodièze, the project development subsidiary of Dumez IDF (VINCI Construction France), this establishment, accommodating 91 residents, will be built by Dumez IDF and is due to open early in 2013. Total value of the works: €12.7m, of which €9.5m for Dumez IDF.
Traffic lights for Mettis
In Metz (east of France), a consortium of Energy business line business units, composed of Citéos Thionville, Citéos Longwy, Citéos Nancy, Electrolor Réseaux (VINCI Energies France Division) and Cegelec Thionville (Cegelec France Division), has secured all the traffic light works packages for the 91 "crossroads with traffic lights" of the Mettis project. Intended to modernise the urban transport network in the metropolitan area of Metz, this project notably involves the development of two own-site public transport lines, new bus lanes and the reorganisation of the existing bus network around the own-site lines; the new system is scheduled to come into service in 2013. The total value for the Energy business line of the works packages concerned is €7.1m. As part of this same project, two works packages for external works have already been awarded to Eurovia subsidiaries EJL Lorraine and Eurovia Florange.
Assembly line for Renault
Actemium Trappes, together with Actemium Harfleur (both are business units of VINCI Energies France Division, Energy business line), is to create the assembly line, at Renault’s Sandouville site (Normandy), for the chassis of the X82 (the future Renault Trafic). The works will take two and a half years. Value: €10m.

The works began in mid-November 2011, with handover due in 2012. VINCI Park has, in addition, awarded a €1.7m contract to SDEL Trans- port (VINCI Energies France Division, Energy business line),to modernise and refurbish the "Château" car park in Saint- Germain-en-Laye (Paris region).

Tunnel drive completed on Line 12 in Paris
On 5 December 2011, the TBM Élodie finished boring the 3,640 m-long tunnel for the extension to the Paris Metro’s Line 12. Located between the Porte de la Chapelle station and the town centre of Aubervilliers, these works were entrusted to a consortium including Chantiers Modernes BTP, Sogea TPI, GTM Génie Civil et Services IDF and Campenon Bernard TP, as well as Botte Fondations for the diaphragm walls - all VINCI Construction France subsidiaries. Apart from the driving of the tunnel, the works involve creating a station and five access and rescue shafts. Total contract value: €109m.
“Foundation plank” laid for “Îlot Bois Soleil” in Toulouse
10 November 2011 saw the launch in Toulouse (south-west France) of the "Îlot Bois Soleil" project, to be implemented within the framework of the first programme to build low energy timber frame homes in the city’s Borderouge district . This experimental venture will produce 35 townhouses. Their design and construction (value: €4m) have been entrusted to Satob Construction (an Arbonis subsidiary, VINCI Construction France), as part of a consortium.
Rain-proofing of the base of the Musée des Confluences
With the rain-proofing of the base and the completion of the major reinforced concrete works on 8 November 2011, the teams from GTM Bâtiment et Génie Civil Lyon and the Major Projects department of the Rhône-Alpes Nord operational area (VINCI Construction France) brought to a close the structural and waterproofing works relating to the base of the Musée des Confluences, in Lyons (central France). The project has now entered a new phase, with the start of work on the "cloud", a steel structure requiring the installation of temporary supports and then the first framework elements on the monumental piers and pillars. Worth a total of €107m, the works include the civil engineering, the steel frame, the envelope and the area immediately surrounding this building designed by Austrian architects Coop Himmelb(l)au. The museum is scheduled to open in the sum- mer of 2014.
Power for a wind turbine manufacturer
In connection with the construction of a plant for the manufacture of concrete wind-turbine masts in Verberie (northern France), German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has awarded the contract for the electrification of the installation to Actemium Senlis and SEDD (both business units of the VINCI Energies France Division, Energy business line). The works, worth €1.2m, will take 6 months, starting in March 2012.
Railway facilities for Port 2000
Within the framework of the enlargement of the Port 2000 container terminal, in Le Havre (Normandy), the ITE Île-de-France Ouest office of ETF-Eurovia Travaux Ferroviaires has just secured two contracts. The first involves supplying and laying 3.4 km of track and 8 sets of points. The second, providing for traffic within the port area, will involve supplying and laying 9.4 km of concreted track and 21 sets of points, and will be implemented in collaboration with Eurovia Haute-Normandie’s Le Havre office (earthworks and backfilling between the lines). These works, undertaken on behalf of the Grand Port Maritime du Havre (port authority), started in January 2012. Total value of the contracts: €7.1m, of which €6.5m for ETF-Eurovia Travaux Ferroviaires.
Belgium
Climate control in Ghent
Cegelec Belgique (International Division, Energy business line) has won the contract for the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) installations in the new tower building housing the administrative services of the Flemish community in Ghent. The 22-storey building, with a surface area of 36,000 sq. metres, meets low energy consumption standards. Contract value: €8.3m.
Cyprus
New terminal for the port of Vassiliko
The port of Vassiliko is building a new terminal, close to existing installations, for the loading and unloading of petroleum products. The terminal will have 19 storage tanks, with a total storage capacity of 345,000 cu. metres. Geka Bouw (a subsidiary of CFE, VINCI Construction), as part of a consortium, is charged with designing the landing-pier and various associated technical aspects, including the arrangements for tying up the ships.
Germany
Car conveyer belts
Car manufacturer Daimler has selected Actemium Guebwiller HGS (VINCI Energies France Division, Energy business line) to modify the conveyer belts at its Bremen plant, where its new Mercedes C-class will be assembled. Work on this project began in December 2011 and will continue through till January 2013, followed by a one-year support period. Total contract value: €11.8m.

Additional parking meters
VINCI Park (VINCI Concessions) has won a contract for the supply, maintenance and operation of 50 ticket machines in the Esch-sur-Alzette area. The number of parking spaces managed by VINCI Park in this town has increased from 6,800 to 8,000 since 1st January 2012.
Morocco
Industrial civil engineering and electrical equipment
Sogea Maroc (VINCI Construction), as part of a consortium, has been appointed by the Moroccan Office for Industrial Development to supply civil engineering works at the Jorf Lasfar chemical site (110 km to the south-west of Casablanca). The project involves building two warehouses for the storage of phosphate fertilizer, each with a capacity of 100,000 t. The works, starting early in 2012, will take 26 months to complete. They will be carried out on behalf of the Moroccan Phosphates Office. Contract value for Sogea Maroc: €57.5m. Cegelec Maroc (International Division, Energy business line) is building two turnkey transformers (225 kV and 60 kV) at the same site. Worth €13.3m, the works began in October and will take 14 months to complete.
Poland
Industrial civil engineering and technical works packages
Warbud (VINCI Construction Central Europe Subsidiaries), as leader of a consortium with PPH Transsystem, is working on the turnkey construction of a new unit at the Bielsko-Biala cogeneration power plant, located in the south of the country, on behalf of Tauron (formerly PKE). The works, worth €5.6m, began in June 2011 and are due for completion in March 2013. Within the framework of this project, the consortium has entrusted Cegelec Poland (International Division, Energy business line) with the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) works package and part of the electrical installations, namely supplying the switchgears and transformers, and the fire protection system. Contract value: €1m.
Sweden
New contract for Emil Lundgren Malmo
Emil Lundgren Malmö (International Division, Energy business line) has been awarded a new contract by NCC for electrical installations as part of a project to renovate a 14,000 sq. metre store in Lund. The company is notably responsible for the power, lighting and data networks, and the fire alarm system. Design and planning work started in June 2011; the installation works began in December 2011 and will take 2 years to complete. Contract value: €2.3m.
United Kingdom
VINCI Facilities for New Look
VINCI Facilities (VINCI Construction UK) has been awarded a contract for the maintenance of 270 stores of ready-to-wear clothing chain New Look in the north of England and in Wales. The contract, for a period of 3 years, is worth an annual €1.75m. It covers mechanical and electrical maintenance services, and the upkeep of the buildings.
Two design-build contracts
The Building division of VINCI Construction UK has secured two contracts for the design-build of projects in the UK. The first project, worth an estimated €9.7m, concerns a mixed-use complex of buildings in Weymouth (south of England). The works include the construction of a new head office for New Look, and an industrial building, as well as improving the roadways. The second contract, for an extension to the Chesterfield Hospital in Bristol (south-west England), is worth €13m. The new building will comprise four levels housing specialised medical imaging facilities, three operating theatres, patients’ rooms and the out-patients department. This project will also involve turning a pavilion into administration facilities and conference rooms, as well as landscaping.
Maintenance for London transport operators
VINCI Facilities (VINCI Construction UK) has won two new facility management contracts for the administrative buildings of Transport for London and London Underground. The main services to be provided by VINCI Facilities under these 5-year contracts are: reception, mechanical, electrical and technical maintenance, and security and safety. Total value: €21m.
“Busy Lizzie” in start position
On 16 December 2011, in London, the TBM Busy Lizzie was lowered into position at the bottom of the launch shaft, from where, in February 2012, she will start driving the Lee Tunnel. Using one of the most powerful cranes in Europe, it took just four hours to lower the machine, weighing 800 t, to a depth of 80 m. Undertaken on behalf of Thames Water, the project involves creating a 7 km-long tunnel, which will make it possible to reduce by 16 million cubic metres the volume of wastewater and rainwater discharged annually, untreated, into the Thames. The project is being implemented by the MVB consortium, composed of Morgan Sindall, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche, a subsidiary of Soletanche Freyssinet (VINCI Construction), and also calls for the creation of four huge shafts, the diaphragm walls of which have just been completed. Worth €476m, the works began in 2010. They will take 5 years to complete.
