2004-2005 :1st PHASE OF THE WORKS – RESTORATION OF THE NORTH HALF OF THE HALL OF MIRRORS

    2004

  • March-June : phase of preliminary works (parquet, electrical installations, fire protection system)
  • July : restoration of the ceiling starts: dusting, photographic survey
  • September : removal of surface dirt from the paintings
  • October-January 2005 : removal of the successive layers of old varnish, removal of overpainting dating from previous restorations
  • November : meeting of the International Scientific Council

    2005

  • January : first before/after results of the cleaning of the ceiling paintings, cleaning of the ceiling sculptures and gilding, restoration of the architectural decorative features: mirrors, marbles, bronzes
  • February : consolidation of the support, re-fixing the canvases
  • March : meeting of the International Scientific Council
    June : meeting of the International Scientific Council
  • March-July : pictorial reintegration in incomplete areas in the ceiling paintings
  • July : completion of the restoration of the architectural decorative features
  • September-October : varnishing of the paintings and completion of restoration of the ceiling
  • October : illumination of the north half
  • November : completion of the restoration of the north half
  • December-January 2006 : dismantling of scaffolding and re-assembly in the south half

2006-2007 : 2nd PHASE OF THE WORKS – RESTORATION OF THE SOUTH HALF OF THE HALL OF MIRRORS

    2006

  • January : meeting of the International Scientific Council
  • February : restoration of ceiling starts: dusting, photographic survey
  • March : removal of surface dirt from the ceiling paintings, consolidation and emergency preliminary re-fixing, removal of the layers of varnish and the overpainting dating from previous restorations
  • April : meeting of the International Scientific Council, restoration of the architectural decorative features: mirrors, marbles, bronzes
  • October : meeting of the International Scientific Council
  • November-February 2007 : reintegration work on the paintings and the incomplete sections of stuccowork
  • December : completion of restoration of the architectural decorative features

    2007

  • March : completion of all restoration works in the south half of the Hall of Mirrors, dismantling of scaffolding
  • April : illumination of the entire Hall of Mirrors
  • May : final finishing works

JUNE 2007 : INAUGURATION OF THE RESTORED HALL OF MIRRORS
